What is online therapy?

Online therapy is simply individual therapy that takes place over a secure online platform. The main difference is that instead of going to my office, you can have your sessions from the comfort of your home, hotel room, or anywhere private you choose. 

Who benefits from online therapy?

Research is showing that online therapy is just as helpful for people as doing therapy in-person.

Some people prefer sitting face-to-face in the same room as their therapist. For other people, talking to a therapist online can seem easier and more comfortable than talking in-person. 

Outside of the comfort factor, online therapy is a great option for people living in areas where access to quality, English-speaking therapy is limited; for people who may have difficulty leaving their home due to disability or chronic health issues; and for people whose travel commitments make it difficult to keep weekly, in-person appointments. 

What do you need for an online therapy session?

While online therapy can feel more comfortable and convenient, there are a few things you will need to do on your end to get the most out of your online therapy session: 

  1. Set yourself up in a quiet, private room where you have access to strong internet signal and power sources in case you need to charge your device.

  2. Close your door, turn your phone on silent, and make sure that you won't be interrupted for the duration of your session (eg: make arrangements with other family members/roommates, etc that you won't be disturbed). 

  3. Set up you computer or device in a position where you can sit comfortably for an hour and be clearly visible in your webcam.
