My Therapeutic Approach:
Depending on your needs and what you hope to gain from counseling, sessions can vary from talk-focused to more skill-building. I use evidence-based practices including dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), compassion focused therapy (CFT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and person-centered therapies that have been shown to help people manage distressing emotions, navigate challenging situations and people, and find a greater sense of peace within themselves.
Sessions last 60 minutes and can be in-person at my location in Lausanne or online via a secure online platform.
The First Session:
In the first session, we'll explore your needs and what you hope to gain from counseling. I'll ask you for some background information about yourself so that I can better understand your context. During this process, we'll discuss what you can expect from the therapy process as well as from our therapeutic relationship. We'll cover information such as client confidentiality, policies, and emergency procedures. The format of this session helps us to explore how we could best work together to meet your needs. At the end of this session, if you feel comfortable with me and my approach, we can discuss scheduling subsequent appointments.
When I work with adolescents and teens, it is important for at least one parent/guardian to attend the first session.
